Residents of Ikwo and Ezza South Federal Constituency in Ebonyi State received a major boost over the weekend as their representative in the House of Representatives, Comrade Chinedu Ogah, rolled out a large-scale yuletide empowerment programme that saw the distribution of ₦200 million in cash alongside 12 trailers of rice.
The outreach, organised by the Chinedu Ogah Foundation, took place at the lawmaker’s hometown and brought together beneficiaries from across the constituency. Ogah said the annual initiative is part of his long-standing commitment to easing the burden on families during the festive period and ensuring that leadership delivers real value to the people.
According to him, public office should be anchored on service and responsibility rather than personal ambition. He stressed that the beneficiaries of the empowerment exercise were drawn directly from the communities that entrusted him with their mandate.
The yuletide programme, which has been held consistently for many years, has grown into a major community event in the constituency. It combines humanitarian support with cultural engagement and has become a platform for reaching vulnerable households at the grassroots.
Ogah, who chairs the House Committee on Reformatory Institutions, clarified that the exercise was not politically driven. He explained that the intervention coincided with the 26th anniversary and annual foundation day of the Chinedu Ogah Foundation, which has been active for over two decades.
He noted that beneficiaries were selected from all 31 wards within Ikwo and Ezza South Federal Constituency to ensure fairness and wide coverage. According to him, the foundation’s activities are guided by inclusiveness and the need to provide practical support where it is most needed.
Beyond the yuletide outreach, the federal lawmaker highlighted other areas the foundation has focused on over the years. These include education scholarships, housing support, job facilitation, and targeted economic assistance for disadvantaged individuals.
Ogah also announced plans for a broader empowerment programme scheduled to take place between March and early April 2026. He said the forthcoming initiative would be community-driven and designed to address priority needs identified by the people themselves.
Speaking on governance, the lawmaker commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that its impact is being felt at the state level. He praised Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for translating federal policies into visible development outcomes across the state.
According to Ogah, improvements in road infrastructure, water supply, education, and security have strengthened Ebonyi’s position as a safe environment for investment and human capital development. He added that many youths from the state are currently benefiting from scholarship opportunities, including overseas study programmes.
Chairman of the event, Comrade Emmanuel Chukwu of the Nigerian Aviation Authority, applauded Ogah for maintaining a strong connection with his constituents and ensuring that policy objectives translate into real benefits for ordinary people.
Other dignitaries, including the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Education, Dr Donatus Ilang, and former Chief Whip of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Humphrey Nwuruku, described the empowerment programme as a reflection of consistent grassroots leadership.
The event attracted a wide range of participants, including members of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, commissioners, party leaders, youth and women groups, and cultural organisations, who joined in marking the foundation’s 26th anniversary and celebrating its continued impact in the constituency.
