The Sokoto State Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy, working in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has opened a new window of opportunity for small businesses through a Digital Skilling Mentorship Scheme targeted at Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) operating within the state.

The programme is being delivered under the Federal Government’s Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL) framework and is aimed at helping local enterprises strengthen their digital operations, improve market reach, and remain competitive in an increasingly technology-driven business environment.

Business owners across Sokoto State are encouraged to take advantage of the initiative, which focuses on practical skill development rather than classroom-based instruction.

What the Digital Mentorship Scheme Offers

The initiative is structured as a three-day intensive training programme that combines guided instruction with hands-on application. Participating MSMEs will be trained on how to integrate digital tools into daily business activities, including marketing, customer engagement, and sales management.

Rather than generic lectures, the programme is built around real business scenarios. Participants will work through practical exercises designed to reflect challenges commonly faced by small businesses, especially in areas such as online visibility, customer acquisition, and digital communication.

To encourage excellence and active participation, organisers have announced that laptop computers will be awarded to the three most outstanding participants at the end of the programme.

Focus on Business Growth and Digital Adoption

The mentorship scheme is intended for business owners who are ready to move beyond traditional methods and adopt digital solutions to grow their enterprises. Participants will gain exposure to tools and strategies that can help them:

  • Reach new customers using digital platforms

  • Improve efficiency in business operations

  • Strengthen their brand presence online

  • Adapt to changing consumer behaviour

The programme also seeks to build a support network of digitally skilled MSMEs who can share knowledge and mentor other small businesses within their communities after the training.

Who Can Participate

To be considered for the digital mentorship scheme, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Operate a registered business with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)

  • Have at least three full-time employees

  • Show readiness to adopt digital tools for business growth

  • Be willing to support and mentor other MSMEs after the programme

  • Be a resident of Sokoto State

Only applicants who meet all stated requirements will be shortlisted.
