GEEP Strengthens Access to Zero-Interest Loans for Small Businesses Across Nigeria
The Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) continues to play a central role in Nigeria’s push for financial inclusion, providing zero-interest loans to micro and small business owners who are often shut out of the formal banking system.
Operating under the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), GEEP was created to support everyday Nigerians involved in farming, trading, artisan work and small-scale enterprises. The programme focuses on helping vulnerable and underserved groups access affordable funding that can sustain and grow their businesses.
Since its introduction, GEEP has supported millions of beneficiaries nationwide, with strong participation from women and youths across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
Who the GEEP Programme Is Designed For
GEEP targets Nigerians who rely on small businesses and informal economic activities for survival. These include:
Smallholder farmers
Market traders and shop owners
Artisans and craft workers
Youth-led micro businesses
Informal entrepreneurs without access to bank loans
The goal is to remove financial barriers and give these groups a fair chance to expand their economic activities.
Loan Categories and What Beneficiaries Can Access
The programme runs through three key funding streams, each structured around specific business needs:
FarmerMoni supports agricultural activities, offering loans of up to ₦300,000 to help farmers purchase inputs, improve production and manage farm-related costs.
MarketMoni provides loans of up to ₦100,000 for traders and artisans, enabling them to restock goods, increase inventory and improve daily business operations.
TraderMoni is targeted at micro-traders, offering smaller loans designed to stabilise and gradually grow informal businesses.
Why GEEP Loans Stand Out
One of GEEP’s major strengths is its borrower-friendly structure. All loans under the programme are:
Offered at zero interest
Provided without collateral
Backed by a three-month moratorium before repayment begins
Structured with flexible repayment plans
These features make the programme accessible to Nigerians who would normally struggle to qualify for conventional loans.
Supporting Grassroots Economic Growth
By supporting farmers and small traders, GEEP helps strengthen local economies and improve livelihoods at the community level. Access to affordable funding allows beneficiaries to invest in productivity, increase income, and contribute to job creation within their local environments.
The programme has become an important tool for reducing economic vulnerability and supporting small businesses that form the backbone of Nigeria’s informal economy.
