Applications Open for 2026 NHEF Scholars Program for Nigerian Students

The Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) has opened applications for the 2026 NHEF Scholars Program, marking 10 years of supporting and developing outstanding Nigerian students for leadership and professional success.

The 2026 cohort continues NHEF’s long-standing mission of identifying high-performing undergraduates and equipping them with the skills, experience, and professional exposure needed to succeed in their careers and contribute meaningfully to society.

About the NHEF Scholars Program

The NHEF Scholars Program is a competitive leadership and career development initiative designed for exceptional penultimate-year undergraduate students studying at selected Nigerian universities.

The program aims to close the gap between academic learning and real-world work experience by preparing students for professional environments while promoting values such as integrity, service, and social responsibility.

Benefits of the NHEF Scholars Program

Selected scholars gain access to several career-boosting opportunities, including:

  • Paid internship placements with leading local and multinational companies in Nigeria

  • Leadership and career development training, including workshops, coaching sessions, and professional seminars

  • Mentorship and networking opportunities with experienced professionals and NHEF alumni across various industries

Through these opportunities, scholars gain hands-on work experience, improve problem-solving and leadership skills, and gain clarity on their career paths. The program also encourages teamwork, ethical leadership, and community service.

Students exploring similar education and leadership opportunities can also check out the Teach For Nigeria Fellowship application, which offers hands-on teaching and leadership experience in underserved communities.
