Getting your NPC Birth Certificate, LGA Certificate of Origin, or Age Declaration is now a basic requirement for almost every official application in Nigeria — from school admissions to passport, visa, NYSC, and virtually all government recruitments (NPC, NPF, NSCDC, Immigration, Customs, INEC, FRSC, Army, Fire Service, etc.).

Yet, many Nigerians still struggle with how to get these documents correctly, avoid mistakes, and know where to start.

Whether you’re applying for school admission, a new job, passport, international travel, or government recruitment , you will almost always be asked to provide any of these three documents:

  • NPC Birth Certificate

  • Local Government Certificate of Origin

  • Court Age Declaration

This guide explains, in a clear and simple way:

  • What each document is

  • Why you need it

  • Requirements

  • Step-by-step application process

  • Common mistakes to avoid

  • Costs, timelines, and problem-solving tips

  • FAQs and comparisons

What Each Document Is and Why Nigerians Need Them

1. NPC Birth Certificate / Attestation of Birth

Issued by: National Population Commission (NPC)
Used for legal proof of date of birth, required for:

NPC issues Birth Certificate for newer records and Attestation of Birth when the original record is missing.

2. LGA Certificate of Origin

Issued by: Your Local Government Area Secretariat
Shows your state and local government of origin, required for:

  • Federal and state recruitment

  • NYSC

  • Scholarships

  • Political appointments

  • Admission in some state-owned institutions

3. Age Declaration

Issued by: High Court or Magistrate Court
Used when an NPC Birth Certificate cannot be obtained, especially for older applicants.
Required for:

  • Job applications

  • Immigration

  • Recruitment

  • School admissions

This affidavit legally states your date of birth.

  • Full online certificate printing

  • Nationwide digital verification

Important: Avoid any website claiming to issue NPC certificates online.

E. Real-Life Example
